news Rebus Community

About Rebus

The Rebus Foundation is a registered charity, established in April 2016 with a mandate to reimagine the academic ecosystem in inventive, responsive ways based on open principles. We are a small but innovative team looking for new members who embody our dynamism and entrepreneurial spirit. We value family-friendly work culture and work/personal life balance. We are continuously reinventing our practices to realize our long-term vision of open education, particularly in light of a global pandemic that has forced a reckoning of educational practices all over the world.

Rebus Community is the arm of Rebus Foundation that focuses on open educational resources (OER) and collaborative open publishing. It is generously supported by funding from the Hewlett Foundation and the Internet Archive. Rebus Community supports open educational publishing through the Textbook Success Program, which provides professional development for faculty and librarians looking to create and improve open educational resources. We create webinars, workshops, and freely licensed guides on OER-related topics and support institutions looking to prioritize open educational resources to reduce costs and more equitably serve their students.

We seek an assistant program manager who, working closely with the project lead, will support the development of new program offerings, lead trainings on open education practices, engage a team of faculty facilitators, and provide related sales and administrative support. We are looking for someone who has experience in community management, familiarity with open education, and is at ease collaborating with groups of facilitators, participants, and open advocates to ensure smooth programming. • Assess project viability in light of potential revenue streams
  • Lead trainings on topics related to OER, open education practices, and open publishing

Your application will be given the care and consideration it deserves.

Working Hours

Rebus Foundation is headquartered in Montreal, though the team is currently remote. The successful candidate can work at headquarters once that becomes a possibility, or work remotely on a permanent basis. The role is conceived to be full-time, but given the current pressures, particularly on those with caregiving duties, we do not wish this to be a barrier to the right candidates. If you believe you are qualified but are unable to commit to a full time workload at this time (but will be available for full-time work in May 2021), please apply and indicate that you would like to explore different ways of structuring the role. Some flexibility in working hours is required since programming will be offered to faculty and institutional staff on scheduled academic breaks.

Compensation, Benefits, and Workplace Culture

Compensation: CA$45,000 to CA$55,000 based on experience.

Rebus is committed to building a diverse team, with people from a range of backgrounds and experiences. We believe that diverse teams help drive innovation. Equity, inclusion, and diversity are core values for us, for the programs and technologies we build, and the communities we support. We strive to ensure that our team reflects these values. Some of the ways in which we commit to those values include:
